Abstract
In 2020, the global economic downturn caused by COVID-19 had an impact on the economies of all countries, including Singapore. As a member of ASEAN, Singapore managed to handle the impact of COVID-19 well, resulting in a high increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) compared to the other 9 ASEAN countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia. This research was conducted to understand how PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk, a multinational corporation from an emerging market, expands to Singapore given that Singapore is the largest FDI recipient in the ASEAN region. This study also utilizes John Dunning's Ownership Location and Internalization (OLI) theory. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data sources from literature studies. The results of this study indicate that Singapore's political and economic conditions can facilitate the expansion carried out by PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk through its subsidiary MAP Active by acquiring companies related to sportswear production and companies that can further expand PT Mitra Adiperkasa's reach in the Southeast Asian region.
