Abstract
Background: The emergency unit is a health service unit that provides first aid to patients with serious life-threatening conditions. According to data from the Ministry of Health in 2017, there were 4,402,205 visits to the ER, including complaints of emergency hypertension. The main therapy for hypertension includes the use of antihypertensive drugs and non-pharmacological methods such as foot reflexology which has been proven to lower blood pressure and improve circulation and efficiency of nutrient and oxygen distribution in the body. Objective: To carry out the nursing care process for hypertension in the Emergency Unit with the innovative therapy of foot reflexology to lower blood pressure. Method: The research subjects were two emergency unit patients who experienced emergency hypertension. Patient indications are those who experience emergency hypertension and do not have wounds / fractures in the legs. The design used in this study is a case study with innovative foot reflexology intervention. Foot reflexology is done by pressing the taichong point where this point is believed to be able to lower blood pressure. Results: This study shows a decrease in blood pressure in both patients. The managed patient‟s blood pressure dropped from 230/135 mmHg to 228/119 mmHg. Meanwhile, the other patient‟s blood pressure dropped from 172/119 mmHg to 168/113 mmHg. The conclusion of this study is that foot reflexology can be used as a complementary therapy in dealing with hypertension problems.
