Abstract

Age is the cause of most cases of diabetes mellitus (DM). This is due to the fact that variations in the body's glucose tolerance are affected by a number of factors, including age. In families with developmental stage six where parents have entered the elderly or have entered the age of 40-60 years and above, Diabetes mellitus can occur at this age by a number of causal factors influenced by changes in people's lifestyles. One of the risk factors that can worsen the condition of diabetes mellitus is smoking. If Diabetes Mellitus is not resolved, complications can arise, such as cataracts, heart problems, impaired kidney function, sexual impotence, decreased thinking, decreased vision, difficulty healing wounds (even gangrene or festering), vascular disorders, and others. This paper aims to carry out family nursing care given to Mrs. T who suffers from diabetes mellitus in the RT 05 RW 02 area of Utan Kayu Utara Village, Matraman District. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. Data were collected through care to 1 family who had diabetes mellitus with smoking behavior with the process of observation, interview, and physical examination. The results showed that there was an increase in knowledge in the family regarding diabetes mellitus and the dangers of smoking for health, GDS results 210 mg/dL, and the family was able to demonstrate foot exercises and behavioral therapy, This study underlines the importance of family involvement in diabetes mellitus management and highlights the challenges that may be faced in implementing family nursing care at the community level.
