Abstract
This study is based on the phenomenon of public criticism of Gita Savitri's views on the Childfree lifestyle that makes you stay young. This study aims to determine how middle-aged audiences accept and form meanings regarding the Childfree statement conveyed by Gita Savitri on Instagram social media. The research method used is descriptive qualitative using Stuart Hall's reception analysis and Herbert Blumer's Symbolic Interactionism theory. Reception analysis is used to determine the audience's position based on Stuart Hall's three categories, namely, Dominant Hegemonic Position, Negotiated Position, and Oppositional Position. Meanwhile, Symbolic Interactionism theory explains that meaning is formed and changed through social interaction. The results of this study indicate that four informants are in an opposition position, because they reject the Childfree concept because it is considered contrary to the traditional and religious values that they hold dear. However, there is also one informant who adopts a negotiating position, where they understand the reasons behind the choice of Childfree even though they do not fully support it. The meaning formed by informants regarding Gita Savitri's Childfree statement is based on aspects of trust and social interaction. The existence of diverse interpretations from informants is also influenced by differences in background such as age, education, and life experience possessed by each informant.
