Abstract
Acute pain is the main reason why patients come to the emergency department (ED). Abdominal pain is one of the most common main complaints with a high prevalence in patients who come to the ED. Pharmacological pain management is more often used, but has bad side effects if used continuously. One of the nursing actions to reduce pain levels with low side effects is non-pharmacological pain management, namely distraction using Virtual Reality (VR) which can create an immersive effect. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of VR therapy in reducing pain levels in abdominal pain patients in the ED. The number of respondents in this study was 2 respondents who were both given VR therapy. The tool used to assess the patient's pain level is the numeric rating scale (NRS 0 – 10). The results of the analysis show that providing VR therapy can help reduce pain levels in patients with abdominal pain who have the main nursing problem of acute pain. Non-pharmacological pain management in the form of distraction using VR is suitable for nurses to apply to patients with abdominal pain in a fairly crowded ED environment.
