Abstract
Background Patient identification is important in nursing services because it minimizes and prevents safety incidents and is a benchmark for the quality of health services. Good identification requires good self-efficacy because it can reduce stress, develop a strong personality, and increase high self-confidence so that it can improve nurse performance, by having effective communication skills. The purposes of the research was to find out whether there was a difference in nurses' self-efficacy in implementing patient identification before and after implementing the training. Design method is Quasi-experiment, one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this research were 16 inpatient nurses at Tarakan Hospital, Jakarta. Before and after treatment data was collected using a questionnaire consisting of 10 questions for effective communication and 38 questions for nurses' self-efficacy. The results of research using an effective communication guide in implementing patient identification with a paired samples test output value of 0.002<0.05 stated that there was an influence of effective communication training on increasing self- efficacy. The correlation coefficient value is 0.350 with a significance value of 0.002. This conclusion shows a strong level of relationship, which means that providing effective communication training has a big effect on increasing nurses' self-efficacy in implementing patient identification. Recommendations: Guaranteeing the quality of care requires quality human resources (HR). To monitor the quality of HR, this can be done through: continuing education, certification, competency recognition, and other supporting activities.
