Abstract
Chemotherapy has a dual nature in cancer treatment management, namely killing cancer cells in the body and causing side effects due to its cytotoxic content. As many as 80% of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy experience Chemotherapy Induced Nausea and Vomiting (CINV). CINV is a digestive disorder that, if not treated seriously, can affect the quality of life and even the patient's perception of chemotherapy treatment. Pharmacological therapy when combined with non-pharmacological therapy such as peppermint aromatherapy can significantly reduce the incidence of CINV. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of peppermint aromatherapy on reducing nausea and vomiting in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Respondents consisted of 2 people who were both given peppermint aromatherapy after chemotherapy by applying peppermint aromatherapy oil that had been mixed with carrier oil to the philtrum area 3 times a day in the morning, afternoon and evening. Data measurement using Index of Nausea Vomiting and Retching (INVR). The results showed a decrease in INVR scores in both patients after being given peppermint aromatherapy intervention. Peppermint aromatherapy can reduce nausea and vomiting of breast cancer patients so that it can be applied as a complementary therapy in dealing with CINV.
