Abstract

Money politics is a phenomenon that can damage the democratic index and produce leaders who lack integrity. However, the public perception is that many people still tolerate money politics, as proven by several survey results from several studies, even placing Indonesia as the country with the third largest practice of money politics in the world. New voters are a group of people who are new to contributing to general elections and tend to be unstable. This research aims to discuss the opinions of novice voters in perceiving money politics using the concept of perception, money politics and novice voters as well as factors that influence novice voters using modernization theory. The method used is Mix Methods (a combination of qualitative and quantitative). The sampling technique in both methods uses purposive sampling. The results of this research explain that education and poverty influence the perception of money politics among novice voters and that the majority of novice voters still understand (allow) money politics to occur.
