Abstract
Research was conducted to show that there is a patriarchy that is entrenched in society. Refers to a system of values, norms and practices that favor and dominate men. In its context, the institution of patriarchy is permeated in the dynamics of social life and becomes a central idea that continues to develop in film works of art. Films often reflect society and criticize existing norms. This film work is seen as a strong medium for depicting a developing reality, as shown in the film "North Country". The constructivism paradigm is used as a conceptual basis for understanding how the social construction of patriarchy influences the character of women in a work environment that is controlled by patriarchal norms. Through the analysis of Roland Barthes' Semiotic Theory approach, the signs given will be studied and analyzed to provide results of implied meanings and the dynamics of existing power relations. This research also uses Co-Culture Theory to discuss communication that occurs in groups of women who are not in a dominant group. This research proves that analyzing 11 scenes which are strong representations of patriarchal culture, is able to provide visual relationships of power, sexual disclosure, and victim blaming that are erased in patriarchal culture. An in-depth analysis of this scene provides an understanding of the impact and influence of patriarchy on life. Keywords: North Country, Patriarchy, Power Relations, Roland Barthes
