Abstract

Black Lives Matter has gained attention and support from many groups and people. So does K-Pop fandom ARMY who has millions of individuals from different background. They campaigned in support of BLM through social media and raised a total over $1,000,000 USD. Although most ARMYs are not from the victimized community and are far from the scene of the incident. ARMY was able to unite and support the BLM movement thanks to the collective identity within the fandom. From there, this research aims to understand the influence of collective identity in the ARMY fandom on support for BLM. By using the concepts of collective identity and fandom. This research uses a qualitative method with an explanatory research type. The result of this research revealed that collective identity in fandom creates intense bonds, integration, and solidarity among ARMYs that can lead to the willingness to take collective action in the form of support for the BLM social movement.
