Abstract

Introduction: Nutritional status affects children's intelligence by 32.83% which has an impact on brain growth. The middle childhood period (6-12 years) is the golden period of intellectual childhood. Based on Riskesdas 2018, children aged 6-12 years experience many nutritional problems. Nutritional status and parental knowledge about balanced nutrition can affect children's intelligence. Bojongsari city education is included in the low category in Depok City with an average length of schooling of 10.52 years and an expected length of schooling of 13.94 years. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between children's nutritional status, parents' level of knowledge about nutrition, and intelligence level of elementary school-age children at SDN 04 Bojongsari Depok. Method: This study used a non- experimental cross-sectional research design. Data was collected from 68 elementary school-age children and their parents at SDN 04 Bojongsari Depok in 2023. Children's nutritional status is assessed based on Body Mass Index (BMI), parents' knowledge of nutrition is assessed through questionnaires, and children's intelligence level is measured by IQ tests (Culture Fair Intelligence Test). Results: Most children had good nutritional status (60.3%), parents' knowledge of balanced nutrition was lacking (69.1%), and average intelligence levels (55.9%). However, there was no significant association between children's nutritional status and their intelligence level (p = 0.136 > 0.05). In addition, there was no significant association between parents' knowledge of nutrition and children's intelligence levels (p = 0.994 > 0.05). This study showed that in the elementary school environment of SDN 04 Bojongsari Depok, there was no significant relationship between the nutritional status of children, parents' knowledge of nutrition, and the child's intelligence level. This is because there are other factors that need to be investigated in influencing children's intelligence such as the environment and economy. Keywords: Children's Nutritional Status, Parental Knowledge, Children's Intelligence
