Abstract
This research aims to investigate the phenomenon of friend with benefits relationships established through online dating applications, specifically focusing on Bumble. It is driven by the growing prevalence of online dating app usage in society for seeking friends with benefits. The primary objective of this study is to elucidate the motives and experiences surrounding sexual self-disclosure among Bumble app users engaged in friend with benefits relationships. Drawing upon the theory of self-disclosure and the Johari Window model developed by Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham, this research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach with a phenomenological research design. Data collection methods include interviews and observations, enabling the inclusion of informant perspectives and field notes. The study involves five informants selected based on predetermined criteria. The findings reveal several motives for sexual self-disclosure that drive Bumble users to share personal information with their partners. These motives include attraction to the partner, fulfilling biological needs, comfort within the relationship, and the expectation of obtaining sexual benefits as initially anticipated. The research also indicates that the experience of sexual self-disclosure is deliberately done to achieve communication goals by initiating specific conversation topics. Positive and negative impacts were reported by the informants following their sexual self-disclosures.
