Abstract

This study aims to discuss the role of a screenwriter in a documentary film by using liberal feminism theory which focuses on asserting that all people without exception have equal rights, including women, who have full space and freedom and are individuals who are equal to men. The creation method in this study focuses on the duties of a screenwriter at the production of a documentary film, which here divided into three stages, namely the pre-production stage, the production stage, and the post-production stage. In this creation method, it is explained in more detail about the role of a screenwriter as one of the main and important parts in making a documentary film and what are the tasks performed and the results provided by a screenwriter in the process of making a documentary film. The results of this study indicate that a screenwriter has tasks that are divided into three, namely in the pre-production, production, and post-production stages. At the pre-production stage, a screenwriter has the task of finding ideas, conducting research, developing ideas and research which are then called storylines, making loglines or brief explanations about the main sources of the documentary, making storyline, making treatment which is an advanced form of storyline, and also taking part in making timeline and budgeting. At the production stage, the screenwriter makes a final guideline in the form of questions as a reference to be used in the process of interviewing sources in the documentary film. In the postproduction stage, the screenwriter makes the final script, which is then called the editing script stage, where this editing script stage is the stage of merging the treatment and final guideline which will then be used by the editor as a reference during the editing stage
