Abstract
Smartphones are devices with easy access and many features that are favored by people from young to adults. Myopia is a condition when the image falls in front of the retina so that the image seen becomes blurry. Myopia has several risk factors, one of them is near work activities. Near work activities in long duration and repeated can cause decreased visual acuity to the occurrence of myopia. The target of this study was elementary school age children considering that age is the optimal age for children's eye development. This study focused to know the correlation between distance and duration of smartphone with myopia. This study is a descriptive quantitative type with a cross sectional design. The population selected for this study were children aged 7-12 years at TPQ Habasyah Ar-rahman who actively use smartphones. Respondents who participated in this study were 49 people. The results of this study showed that 20 respondents (40.8%) had myopia and 29 respondents (59.2%) did not have myopia. Based on the results of the chi-square test, the p-value of the duration variable (>2hours) <0.05 = 0.012, which means that there is a significant correlation between duration of smartphone and myopia. For the p-value of the distance variable (<30cm) > 0.05 = 0.154, it means that there is no significant correlation between distance of smartphone myopia.
