Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze the representation of social criticism in stand up comedy using John Fiske's semiotic analysis model in Pandji Pragiwaksono's stand up comedy show titled Live Indonesia Maya. The research method used is the semiotic analysis of the John Fiske model. The data collection technique is content analysis by Harold D. Lasswell by watching the video recording of the special show "Hiduplah Indonesia Maya" focused on social criticism, and interviews with Barry Williem as the show's opener, and also a graduate of Stand Up Comedy Kompas TV. The data analysis technique used is John Fiske's semiotics by analyzing visuals and bits/materials of Pandji Pragiwaksono's stand up comedy and also collecting data from related previous studies. The data triangulation technique used is the triangulation method, namely by using interviews and study of stand-up comedy video recordings, Live Indonesia Maya. The research results obtained are at the level of reality, speech, body language, clothing, and expressions. Showing that the formal clothes worn have no relationship with the stand up comedy material that will be delivered, but gives the meaning of professionalism for a performer. At the level of representation, narrative/bit material, lighting, camera shots/shooting, casting. It shows that Pandji Pragiwaksono can convey sensitive issues but is still accepted by the audience because discussing social criticism is the hallmark of Pandji Pragiwaksono, of course with comedy that can be accepted by his followers, because the stand up comedy audience is an audience who really knows the comic. At the ideological level, various ideologies are described, such as the ideology of nationalism, individualism, democracy, conservatism, modernism, consumerism, Sukarnoism, and humanism. Pandji Pragiwaksono has an interest and knowledge of ideological issues so that the material presented contains social criticism that contains an ideology nationalist-sosialism.
