Abstract

The incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM) increases the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) in endemic areas and one of tuberculosis-endemic countries is Indonesia. Due to depressed immune system in DM, it affects the progression of TB and the manifestation of radiographic on pulmonary TB. This study aimed to figure the radiographic lesions on chest x-ray of pulmonary TB patients with and without type 2 DM. The study was an observational descriptive study with a cross-sectional design using consecutive sampling. Data were collected from the medical record of TB patients with and without type 2 DM at RSUP Persahabatan in the period March 2019-March 2020. The results of pulmonary TB group without type 2 DM showed cavities in 16 people (40%) with size > 4cm in 5 people (12.5%) and multiple cavities in 6 people (15%), with far advance lesions in 14 people (35% ) and typical location in 37 people (95%), whereas in pulmonary TB group with type 2 DM showed cavities in 28 people (70%) with size > 4cm in 11 people (27.5%) and multiple cavities in 14 people (35%), with far advance lesions in 37 people (67.5%) and typical location in 39 people (97.5%). The conclusion is radiological x-ray showed the lesion of pulmonary TB with type 2 DM is more advance than the lesion of pulmonary TB without type 2 DM.
