Abstract

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) occurs when the heart arteries do not adequately distribute oxygen-rich blood to the heart. Giving a lot of drugs to CHD patients can lead to Drug Related Problems (DRPs). DRPs are unexpected events due to drug therapy that has the potential to interfere the success of treatment in patients. Identification of DRPs is important to reduce mortality, morbidity, and drug therapy costs. The purpose of this study was to determine the category of DRPs that occur in CHD patients. The method of this research used Systematic Review, a method used to gather relevant evidence in accordance with the pre-determined eligibility criteria to answer the research question that becomes focus of the researches. Based on 4 literatures used as data in this study, 6 out of 8 categories of DRPs that occur in CHD patients consist of interactions among drugs, incorrect indications, inappropriate dosages (underdose or overdose), wrong drug consumption frequency, wrong medication time and medications without indication. DRPs in CHD patients differ in each patient due to differences in patient characteristics in the form of comorbidities, drugs that patients consume, and duration of stay in hospital. Drug interactions are the most common DRPs category in most studies. The combination of omeprazole and clopidogrel often causes DRPs in the category of drug interactions in CHD patients because the pump proton inhibitor inhibits cytochrome P450 2C19, so that the metabolic bioactivation of clopidogrel is inhibited.
