Abstract
Background: HIV remains a major global health burden due to its progressive effect on immune function, with CD4 count serving as the key marker of immune status and antiretroviral therapy (ART) response. Nutritional status, assessed via Body Mass Index (BMI), is thought to influence CD4 recovery during ART. Objective: To examine the association between BMI and CD4 count in HIV patients on ART at Dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Regional General Hospital, Bekasi City. Methods: A cross-sectional study used secondary medical record data (February 2025-June 2026) from 55 HIV patients on ART for at least six months, selected by total sampling; normality was tested with Kolmogorov-Smirnov and association with Pearson’s correlation (α = 0.05). Results: Of 55 subjects, 92.7% were male, with mean BMI 22.98 ± 4.37 kg/m² and mean CD4 count 352.62 ± 165.09 cells/mm³ (both normally distributed). Pearson’s test showed r = 0.275, p = 0.042, indicating a significant weak positive correlation. Conclusion: BMI is significantly and positively, though weakly, associated with CD4 count in HIV patients on ART at Dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Regional General Hospital, Bekasi City (r = 0.275; p = 0.042).
