Abstract
Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of disorder characterized by central obesity, insulin resistance, and hyperglycemia, and is associated with an increased of type 2 DM. Previous research reported that an intervention of 1,8 ml goat milk kefir with randu honey was able to improve lipid profile. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the effect of graded doses of goat milk kefir with randu honey on body weight and lipid profile in rats with metabolic syndrome. This study used a true experimental design with a pre and post-test approach, nvolving 30 male Sprague Dawley rats aged 6-8 weeks with a body weight of 180-200 g, for 14 days. The rats were divided into five groups, namely a healthy group, a diabetic group, and three treatment groups receiving doses of 2,7 ml, 3,6 ml, and 4,5 ml/200 g BW. Body weight was measured every 7 days, while lipid profile was measured using the spectrophotometric method. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Kruskall-Wallis testsm followed by Post Hoc tests. The results showed no significant difference in body weight (p=0,636), whereas significant differences were found in total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and HDL levels (p=0,000). The 4,5 ml dose provided the most optimal improvement effect on lipid profile.
