Abstract
This study is motivated by the growing number of single fathers who take on dual roles as both the primary breadwinner and primary caregiver following a divorce. This condition requires fathers to establish effective communication in the process of shaping their children's character without the presence of a partner. This study examines communication patterns berween single fathers and their children in the process of character information. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research explores the subjective experience of single fathers who perform dual roles as caregivers, educators, and primary emotional figures. The findings reveal that open, two-way, and supportive communication oriented toward dialogue plays a significant role in internalizing core character values, including honesty, responsibility, independence, discipline, and respect. Democratic interaction patterns enable children to participate in conversation, express emotions, and interpret parental messages as meaningful moral experience. Nevertheless, time constraints, multiple role demands, and children’s psychological conditions following parental separation constitute major barriers that may reduce interactin intensity. Despite these challenges, single fathers who adopt empathic communication, provide consistent role modeling, and flexibly adjust their communicative strategies are able to maintain warm and reflective relationship with their children. Therefore, the quality of interpersonal communication within single father families is a crucial determinant in fostering children’s emotional, social, and moral character development.
