Abstract

The cylinder barrel of a hydraulic cylinder jack is a critical component that must withstand high internal pressure, which often leads to radial deformation and non-uniform stress distribution. This study aims to analyze the effect of cylinder barrel wall thickness variations on stress distribution, radial deformation, and the safety factor of a 200-ton class hydraulic cylinder jack using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Simulations were conducted using ANSYS software with a constant internal pressure of 20 MPa and AISI 1045 steel material. The parametric study involved seven variations of wall thickness increments in 5 mm steps on the outer diameter. Simulation results indicate that the highest stress concentration and deformation always occur on the inner wall. Increasing the thickness significantly reduced the hoop stress from 145,5 MPa to 91,417 MPa and the radial deformation from 0.04000 mm to 0.02606 mm in Variation 7. All design variations were declared safe, as they maintained a safety factor above 2.0, in compliance with ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 1 standards. Based on the efficiency ratio, Variation 1 (+5 mm increment) is identified as the optimal choice, providing the highest efficiency in parameter reduction.
