Abstract

The hook component in an overhead conveyor system plays an important role in supporting and transferring loads during the production process, requiring a design that is both strong and material-efficient. This study aims to analyze the effect of topology optimization on the structural response of an Aluminum 6061 hook based on von Mises stress and deformation values, evaluate mass reduction efficiency, and analyze stress distribution patterns before and after optimization using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method. The research was conducted numerically using ANSYS 2026 R1 software with Aluminum 6061-T6 material. The initial and optimized designs were analyzed under their respective maximum safe loads, namely 735 N for the initial design and 690 N for the optimized design. The analyzed parameters included von Mises stress, total deformation, safety factor, mass, and stress distribution. The results show that the optimized design produced a maximum von Mises stress of 182.21 MPa, slightly lower than the initial design at 182.52 MPa. The deformation value also decreased from 1.20 × 10⁻¹ mm to 0.98 × 10⁻¹ mm. In addition, the component mass was successfully reduced from 17.87 g to 16.21 g, equivalent to a 9.29% reduction. The stress distribution pattern in the optimized design also became more uniform compared to the initial design. Based on these results, topology optimization proved capable of producing a lighter hook design while maintaining structural performance and safety under the applied maximum loading conditions.
