Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period between childhood and adulthood. During this stage, adolescents begin to develop greater independence in making decisions, including food choices. However, this independence is not always accompanied by adequate knowledge and attitudes regarding food selection, thus requiring educational interventions delivered through appropriate media. This study aimed to determine the effect of educational media exposure using board games and presentation slides on knowledge and attitudes toward choosing low-salt foods among students at SMA Negeri 109 Jakarta. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest two-group approach involving 60 eleventh-grade students selected through purposive sampling and divided into a board game group (n=30) and a presentation slide group (n=30). Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, Wilcoxon test, and Mann–Whitney test. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge in the board game group (p=0.006), while the presentation slide group showed no significant increase (p=0.507). Changes in attitudes were not significant in either group (board game p=0.296; presentation slide p=0.407). The effectiveness comparison indicated that the board game media was more effective in improving knowledge (p=0.012), but not attitudes (p=0.725). Board game media was more effective in increasing knowledge related to the selection of low-salt foods.
