Abstract
This study analyzes the representation of Mexican immigrants in Donald Trump’s political discourse during his second presidential term from 2024 to 2025. The research is motivated by the renewed prominence of immigration as a central political issue and by Trump’s persistent rhetoric linking Mexican immigrants to threats against U.S. national security. The study aims to examine how such representations are constructed through campaign speeches, the 2025 inaugural address, and Executive Orders 14159, 14160, and 14161. Using a qualitative approach, the research applies Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), which emphasizes the relationship between language, ideology, and power. The findings reveal that Trump consistently portrays Mexican immigrants as threats to national security, sovereignty, and social order through discursive strategies of criminalization, dehumanization, and securitization. These representations are reinforced through lexical choices such as criminal aliens, foreign terrorists, invasion, and alien, which construct a clear distinction between “us” and “them.” Furthermore, the glorification of the border wall and the militarization of the U.S.–Mexico border serve as mechanisms for legitimizing restrictive immigration policies. The study concludes that Trump’s discourse functions not only to shape public perceptions of Mexican immigrants but also to strengthen political support for exclusionary immigration policies and stricter border control measures.
