Abstract
The demand for stable and reliable internet connectivity is crucial, particularly for companies operating cloud-based systems. PT Cyber Teknologi Putrawan, as an internet service provider, currently utilizes two Internet Service Provider (ISP) connections: the internal Cybertek ISP (50 Mbps) and Telkom ISP (30 Mbps). However, the existing network relies on a conventional failover mechanism, where the secondary link only activates upon primary link failure, resulting in suboptimal overall bandwidth utilization. To address this, this study analyzes the performance of three load balancing algorithms Per Connection Classifier (PCC), Equal Cost Multi Path (ECMP), and Nth on a MikroTik router, evaluated through throughput, delay, jitter, and packet loss based on the TIPHON standard, along with link utilization and traceroute-based failover analysis. Results show that all three algorithms significantly improved network performance compared to a single-ISP condition, with throughput gains of 60-62% for Rx and 68-71% for Tx, PCC achieving the best results on both. All QoS values fell within the Good to Excellent categories; PCC performed best in streaming scenarios with the lowest delay and jitter (8.57-8.77 ms and 7.39-7.80 ms), while Nth achieved the best delay in download scenarios (0.96–1.00 ms) and PCC achieved the lowest packet loss (0.03-0.12%). In terms of link utilization, PCC produced the most proportional load distribution with a utilization gap of 24.826% (closest to the ideal 25%) and the highest total bandwidth utilization of 76.40 Mbps (95.5% of the 80 Mbps total capacity), followed by Nth (73.19 Mbps, gap 25.862%), while ECMP produced the least proportional distribution with the lowest total utilization (72.02 Mbps, gap 16.163%). Regarding failover, ECMP achieved the fastest recovery time (average 5.33 seconds, maximum RTO spike of 16 ms), followed by PCC (10.33 seconds, 19 ms RTO) and Nth (11.67 seconds), with all three algorithms achieving a 100% success rate. These findings indicate that each algorithm exhibits distinct performance characteristics, but overall, load balancing implementation provides an effective solution for maintaining connection stability and availability at PT Cyber Teknologi Putrawan.
