Abstract
The prevalence of overweight among adolescents continues to increase and may raise the risk of noncommunicable diseases in adulthood. Lifestyle factors, including watching while eating, food advertisements exposure, and consumption of UPF, may influence adolescents eating patterns and nutritional status. This study aimed to analyze the association between watching while eating, exposure to food advertisements, and UPF consumption with overweight among adolescents at SMAN 6 Depok. This cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach involved 166 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Nutritional status was determined based on BMI-for-age, and data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The result showed that the prevalence of overweight was 27.7%. There was an association between watching while eating and the prevalence of overweight (p = 0.045) and between UPF consumption and the prevalence of overweight (p = 0.007), whereas exposure to food advertisements did not show a significant association with the prevalence of overweight (p = 0.925). This study concludes that watching while eating and UPF consumption are associated with the prevalence of overweight among adolescents at SMAN 6 Depok. These findings indicate that the behavior of watching while eating and UPF consumption need to be addressed in efforts to prevent overweight among adolescents.
