Abstract

Background: The number of diarrhea cases in Depok City has shown an increasing trend since 2021, making it an ongoing public health concern. Climatic factors may be associated with the incidence of diarrhea, but research on this relationship in Depok City remains limited. Aim: To examine the relationship between climatic factors and diarrhea incidence in Depok City over the 2020–2024 period. Methods: This study applied an ecological design based on secondary data. Diarrhea case data were sourced from the Depok City Health Office, while climate data (rainfall, air temperature, humidity, and wind speed) were obtained from the West Java BMKG covering 2020–2024. Variable relationships were tested using the Pearson correlation test. Results: The findings indicate no statistically significant relationship between diarrhea incidence and rainfall (p = 0.414), air temperature (p = 0.231), humidity (p = 0.180), or wind speed (p = 0.207) in Depok City during the study period. Conclusion: Climatic factors, including rainfall, air temperature, humidity, and wind speed, were not significantly associated with diarrhea incidence in Depok City from 2020 to 2024. Therefore, improvements to the quality of diarrhea surveillance systems are needed, and future research should consider other factors potentially associated with the occurrence of diarrhea.
