Abstract

This final project aims to examine non-performing loans and profitability in relation to capital adequacy in KBMI 3 conventional commercial banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2021–2025 period. The method used is a quantitative descriptive analysis, focusing on a sample of 9 conventional commercial banks categorized under KBMI 3. Secondary data were collected from each bank's annual reports accessed through the official website of the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The analysis results show that the average Gross NPL of the observed banks consistently decreased from 2.83% in 2021 to 2.22% in 2025, remaining within the "Healthy" category. The average ROA demonstrated a fluctuating trend but consistently stayed in the "Very Healthy" category. Furthermore, the average CAR exhibited a fluctuating yet upward trend, continuously categorized as "Very Healthy" throughout the observation period. The analysis of the relationship between non-performing loans, profitability, and capital indicates that a reduction in non-performing loans, combined with operational efficiency indicated by the BOPO ratio, supports the banks' ability to generate profit. The accumulated profits were subsequently allocated as retained earnings—a key component of core capital—thereby contributing to the capital strengthening of KBMI 3 conventional commercial banks over the observed period.
