Abstract
The development of digital communication technology through social media such as WhatsApp and Telegram demands data image security, where WhatsApp has 124 million users in Indonesia in 2018 and Telegram more than 700 million active users worldwide in 2022. Previous research shows that WhatsApp has a failure rate of up to 37.5% and Telegram can remove up to 100% of LSB-based steganography data, so it requires analysis of other methods such as Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). This study aims to analyze the quality and robustness of DWT-based stego images against WhatsApp and Telegram compression using MATLAB with six variations of cover images and two types of secret images, namely Barcodes and Name Text. Evaluation is carried out using Mean Square Error (MSE), Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), and Structural Similarity Index Measurement (SSIM) parameters as well as visual analysis through Extraction results. The results show that the DWT method produces excellent image quality in initial conditions with low MSE values (0.000034 – 0.000312), high PSNR (36 – 44 dB), and SSIM close to 1, and remains quite robust after compression, although there is a decrease in quality where WhatsApp is more affected than Telegram. In addition, the secret image in the form of Name Text shows better performance than Barcodes.
