Abstract

Access to adequate sanitation is one of the key indicators in supporting public health and sustainable development. Although Bali Province has one of the highest levels of access to adequate sanitation in Indonesia, disparities still exist among its regencies and municipality. This study aims to analyze the effects of poverty, population density, and the open unemployment rate on access to adequate sanitation in Bali Province during the period of 2017–2024. This study employs panel data consisting of nine regencies/municipality over the 2017–2024 period. The analysis uses the Fixed Effect Model (FEM), which is estimated using Feasible Generalized Least Squares (FGLS) to address heteroskedasticity and autocorrelation problems. The results indicate that poverty has a negative and statistically significant effect on access to adequate sanitation, implying that an increase in poverty reduces access to adequate sanitation. Meanwhile, population density and the open unemployment rate have positive and statistically significant effects on access to adequate sanitation. Simultaneously, all independent variables significantly affect access to adequate sanitation, as indicated by the Wald Chi-Square test. These findings suggest that improving community welfare, expanding equitable sanitation infrastructure, and implementing sustainable government policies are essential to increasing access to adequate sanitation in Bali Province.
