Abstract

BMKG's ocean wave data presentation is currently dominated by static numerical text and 2D contour maps, limiting intuitive understanding of marine dynamics. This research aims to design and implement a real-time 3D ocean wave simulation system based on buoy observation data from Cloud Firestore. The simulation utilizes a hybrid JONSWAP-TMA spectral approach and Cosine-2s directional spreading function. The physical fetch parameter is numerically deduced using Newton-Raphson iteration on the CPU. To achieve responsive visualization, all spectral calculations and the 2D IFFT algorithm are delegated in parallel to the GPU via Compute Shaders (HLSL). Mesh rendering optimization employs the Geometric Clipmap technique with nine Level of Detail (LOD) tiers. Data synchronization is optimized via AsyncGPUReadback and local in-memory caching. Post-build evaluation on a 256 × 256 cascade grid demonstrates that the GPU path runs stably at an average of 100.7 FPS (9.9 ms frame time), significantly outperforming the sequential CPU path which drops to 6.6 FPS (150.8 ms frame time). Leveraging parallel GPU computing effectively delivers realistic 3D ocean visualizations for modern oceanographic monitoring.
