Abstract
Premature deindustrialization poses a structural challenge for Indonesia, particularly in Java as the national industrial hub, characterized by a declining manufacturing sector contribution to regional GDP before per capita income reaches high levels. This study aims to analyze the effects of per capita income, industrial sector investment, trade openness, and manufacturing labor productivity on the manufacturing sector's contribution to regional GDP across six Javanese provinces over the period 2010–2024. The study employs panel data regression using the Fixed Effect Model estimated with Panel Corrected Standard Errors (PCSE) and Prais-Winsten AR(1) correction to address heteroscedasticity and autocorrelation. Results indicate that industrial investment and manufacturing labor productivity exert a positive and significant effect on manufacturing contribution, serving as potential counterweights to deindustrialization. Trade openness also shows a positive and significant effect, suggesting that imports of raw materials and capital goods strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity. Meanwhile, per capita income per capita income has no significant effect, and the inverted U-curve pattern assumed in premature deindustrialization theory is not empirically confirmed. Simultaneously, all variables significantly influence the manufacturing sector's contribution to regional GDP in Java.
