Abstract
Income inequality remains a challenge in economic development, indicating that the equitable distribution of prosperity is insufficiently inclusive, especially in Western Indonesia, which serves as the center of Indonesia’s economic activity. This study aims to analyze the effect of formal employment, average years of schooling, GRDP on income inequality across 17 provinces in Western Indonesia from 2010 to 2024 using a panel data approach using the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) estimated with Driscoll-Kraay. The estimation results show that the formal employment has a positive and significant effect on income inequality due to wage gaps and unequal market accessibility. Conversely, the average of schooling variable show a significant negative effect on inequality, proving that human capital accumulation effectively reduces income disparity. Meanwhile, GRDP exerts a positive but insignificant impact on income inequality. This study highlights the importance of public police focused on equity and enhancing access to education and employment to foster inclusive growth in Western Indonesia.
