Abstract
Housewives are one of the groups with the highest number of HIV/AIDS cases in Indonesia, despite generally being considered a low-risk population. Limited knowledge, high levels of stigma, and restricted access to and utilization of HIV testing services are factors that hinder early detection in this group. This study aimed to determine the effect of HIV educational videos on improving knowledge and the intention to undergo HIV testing among housewives in RW 17, Pabuaran Village, Bojong Gede District, Bogor Regency. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach without a control group. The intervention consisted of providing an HIV educational video, followed by measuring participants’ knowledge and intention to undergo HIV testing before and after the intervention. The results showed that the educational video intervention significantly improved knowledge and the intention to undergo HIV testing, with an average increase in intention of 9.8% from pre-test to post-test. The highest increase was found in the indicator of willingness to take an HIV test if the service is easily accessible and free, while the lowest increase was observed in the indicator of encouraging partners and peers to undergo HIV testing. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores for knowledge (p = 0.000) and intention to undergo HIV testing (p = 0.017) (p < 0.05). In conclusion, HIV educational videos are proven to be effective in improving knowledge and the intention to undergo HIV testing among housewives and can be recommended as a health promotion tool to increase HIV screening coverage in the community.
