Abstract
The quality of life of older adults is strongly influenced by psychosocial and physiological factors, including levels of loneliness and sleep quality. Changes in social roles, physical limitations, and the institutional environment also contribute to these issues among older adults. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between loneliness and sleep quality and the quality of life of older adults at Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia Social Home, Jakarta. A cross-sectional design was employed with a sample of 139 older adults aged ≥ 60 years, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the UCLA Loneliness Scale, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and the WHOQOL-BREF. Spearman correlation analysis, based on the data distribution, revealed a significant relationship between loneliness and quality of life (r = −0.802; p < 0.001) and between sleep quality and quality of life (r = −0.307; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that higher levels of loneliness and poorer sleep quality are associated with lower quality of life. Loneliness showed a strong negative correlation, while sleep quality showed a moderate negative correlation with quality of life. This study is expected to provide a foundation for nurses to develop interventions that enhance social support, stimulate social interaction, and improve sleep quality, thereby improving the quality of life of older adults in social care institutions.
