Abstract
Patient safety is a priority for healthcare quality, and medication errors are one of the most common sources of injury. Initial observations in the Soehardo Kertohusodo Room, 2nd Floor, showed that the average nurse compliance in IV medication management (preparation, compounding, and administration) was still low, at around 75.26%, and 12.5% of phlebitis cases and 31.25% of infusion failures were found. Based on these results, researchers conducted Preventing Risks of Infections and Medication Errors (PRIME) training for nurse compliance in IV medication administration as an effort to improve patient safety. The PRIME IV medication training lasted 2 days (4 sessions with a duration of 1–2 hours per session) for 6 nurses. Evaluation was carried out through observation using an observation sheet for 3 days after the training to measure the level of nurse compliance. The average score before the training was 75.26%. After training until the last day of observation, the average score increased from 20 to 25, representing an increase of approximately 5 points (18.28%). The analysis also showed that PRIME training significantly increased nurse compliance with IV medication management (p-value = 0.004). This increased compliance contributed to improved patient safety and medication error prevention, as evidenced by the elimination of phlebitis cases during the observation period.
