Abstract

Background: Dysmenorrhea is a common menstrual problem experienced by adolescent girls and can interfere with daily activities and quality of life. Sleep quality has been suggested as one of the factors influencing pain perception; however, evidence regarding its relationship with dysmenorrhea degree remains inconsistent. Objective: This study aimed to determine the distribution of sleep quality and dysmenorrhea pain degree and to analyze the relationship between sleep quality and the degree of dysmenorrhea among eleventh-grade female students at SMA Negeri 6 Kota Tangerang Selatan. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design involving 80 female students who met the inclusion criteria. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while dysmenorrhea pain degree was measured using a pain scale. Data were analyzed using Fisher’s Exact Test. Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents had poor sleep quality (80%) and experienced moderate dysmenorrhea pain (56.3%). Statistical analysis indicated no significant relationship between sleep quality and the degree of dysmenorrhea (p = 0.3699). Conclusion: This finding suggests that, in this study population, sleep quality was not a dominant factor influencing dysmenorrhea pain degree. Other factors such as hormonal mechanisms, individual pain thresholds, and relatively homogeneous respondent characteristics may play a more substantial role.
