Abstract

The limited availability of fossil energy and its environmental impact encourage the development of renewable energy sources, including small-scale piezoelectric energy harvesting. This research aims to design and develop a piezoelectric shoe prototype as an alternative energy source for pedestrians and to analyze the effect of step count and piezoelectric configuration on the generated electrical energy. An experimental method was applied by designing two piezoelectric insole configurations. The system employs twelve 35 mm PZT piezoelectric sensors connected in parallel, integrated with a full-wave rectifier, voltage stabilizing capacitor, and a 1000 mAh lithium-ion 18650 battery. Testing was conducted under a walking scenario with step counts ranging from 250 to 1000 steps and a user body weight of 100 kg. Output voltage, current, and power were measured. The results indicate that an increase in step count leads to higher voltage and power output. Configuration B shows the best performance, producing a maximum voltage of 5.43 V, a current of 340 µA, and a power output of 1.846 mW at 1000 steps, outperforming Configuration A. Although the generated power is insufficient for direct battery charging, the proposed system demonstrates potential as an environmentally friendly and portable energy source for low-power electronic devices. Keywords: renewable energy, piezoelectric, piezoelectric shoes.
