Abstract
The island of Sulawesi exhibits a clear disparity in human development, with North Sulawesi consistently classified in the high Human Development Index (HDI) category, while West Sulawesi remains in the low category despite being located within the same region. This gap is presumed to be influenced by labor market dynamics, household purchasing power, and population growth that do not always align with improvements in quality of life. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) and Total Population (JP) on HDI across regencies and cities in both provinces during the 2014–2024 period. The research employs panel data regression with the Fixed Effect Model as the selected estimation model. The results show that partially, TPT has a negative significant effect on HDI and population size have a significant positive effect. Simultaneously, all variables are found to significantly influence HDI.
