Abstract
Objective Stroke is an acute neurological condition caused by impaired cerebral blood flow and remains a major cause of mortality and disability, thus requiring supportive therapies such as neuroprotective agents to reduce neuronal damage. This study aimed to describe the profile of neuroprotective agent use among acute stroke patients in the Stroke Unit of Gatot Soebroto Central Army Hospital, Jakarta Method A descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. Data were obtained from medical records of acute stroke patients and analyzed using univariate analysis to describe patient characteristics and patterns of neuroprotective use Result The results showed that most patients were aged 56–65 years and predominantly male. Ischemic stroke was the most common type observed. Citicoline was the most frequently prescribed neuroprotective agent, while piracetam was used in a smaller proportion of patients. The most common dose of citicoline was 500 mg, whereas piracetam was generally administered at a dose of 1200 mg. Oral administration was the predominant route, with citicoline most commonly given twice daily. Conclusion In conclusion, citicoline was the primary neuroprotective agent used in acute stroke patients in the Stroke Unit, reflecting current clinical practice patterns.
