Abstract

This thesis examines the impact of modifications to the Bulk Carrier MV.RATU DAMAI, which functions as a Transshipment Floating Terminal. This requires a comprehensive analysis of structural strength, particularly in the Ship loader pedestal, which acts as the Main support for the boom load and operational forces. This study aims to assess the impact of elevation angle variations on stress distribution and deformation in the pedestal using the Finite Element Method (FEM) through SolidWorks simulation. A three-dimensional model for the deck and Ship loader was created based on the original structural data, then load variations of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 tons and elevation angles of +10°, +5°, 0°, and –12° were applied. The analysis shows that elevation angle variations produce significant differences in normal stress, shear stress, and deformation values. Negative elevation angles produce maximum stress due to increased moments and reaction forces at the fulcrum. The maximum stress is then checked against the stress limits allowed by RINA classification and is declared to be within safe limits. This study describes critical load conditions and can be used as a basis for improving operational safety and ensuring the reliability of the Ship loader pedestal structure at the Floating Terminal.
