Abstract
Income inequality remains a major problem in Indonesia's economic development, especially in the provinces of DKI Jakarta, West Java, and DIY, which have the highest levels of inequality despite their strong economic activity. This situation highlights a contradiction, whereby economic growth is not always accompanied by equitable distribution of development outcomes. Various indicators, such as improvements in human resources, the amount of investment, and labor market dynamics, have not been able to consistently improve income distribution. The gap between economic progress and income distribution shows that the development process has not been inclusive. This is the focus of this study: the effect of Human Development Index (HDI), investment, and Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) on income inequality. This study uses panel data from the three provinces during the 2011-2024 period and is analyzed using panel data regression with the Common Effect Model as the selected model. The results show that the HDI has a positive and insignificant relationship with income inequality, while investment has a negative and insignificant relationship. Meanwhile, the OUR has a negative and significant effect.
