Abstract
ABSTRACT Introduction: Bell’s palsy is an acute, idiopathic peripheral facial nerve paralysis characterized by sudden onset of unilateral facial muscle weakness without central lesions. Approximately 30% of patients with Bell’s palsy experience residual symptoms or sequelae, which negatively affect quality of life. Aims: Aims to assess the quality of life among productive-age female patients with sequelae following Bell’s palsy at RS Islam Pondok Kopi, East Jakarta, particularly focusing on the impact of the condition on physical and social functioning. Methods: This research employed a descriptive quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 productive-age female patients with sequelae of Bell’s palsy at RS Islam Pondok Kopi, East Jakarta. Data were collected using the Facial Disability Index (FDI) questionnaire. Results: The majority of respondents were characterized by higher educational backgrounds (56.7%), active employment status (63.3%), and frequent exposure to cold air (70%). Clinically, most respondents had experienced Bell’s palsy for more than three months (80%), and 36.7% reported a history of Diabetes Mellitus as a significant comorbidity influencing recovery and quality of life. Overall, 70% of respondents demonstrated a high level of quality of life. Discussion: The findings indicate that most productive-age female patients with sequelae of Bell’s palsy maintain high quality of life. Keywords: Bell’s Palsy, Quality of Life, Sequelae, Women
