Abstract
Executive function plays an essential role in daily life, as it regulates a person's behaviour. Consistent execution of executive functions creates neural patterns in the brain that determine stable behavioural tendencies, forming individual personality traits. This study is part of a multi-centre research project conducted in nine major cities across Indonesia, aiming to map the executive brain function. Specifically, this research examines executive brain function among residents of Medan City using a practical, fast, and cost-effective local instrument, namely the Psychological Assessment for Spiritual Health and Brain Function Screening (PASH BRAINS). This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. A total of 140 respondents were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, using age and educational-level stratification. Descriptive analysis showed that the majority of Medan residents had mild disturbances (85 respondents [60.7%] out of 140 [100%]) in cognitive executive function (CEF) and optimal function (122 respondents [87.1%] out of 140 [100%]) in transcendental executive function (TEF). The correlation analysis using Spearman's rank test revealed a significant relationship (p-value = 0.000, r = 0.384). Furthermore, linear regression analyses of the three components of FEK and the three components of FET demonstrated that the cingulate gyrus had the most significant influence on improving the three reflective components of FET, compared with the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and the limbic system.
