Abstract

The limitations of energy resources and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the land transportation sector have driven the development of vehicles. Competitions such as Kompetisi Mobil Hemat Energi (KMHE) and Shell Eco-Marathon promote the development of energy-efficient (supermileage) vehicles, including Soedirman 2.0 by the Patriot UPNVJ team. One of the main design challenges lies in developing a roll bar that is both structurally strong and lightweight, while complying with competition regulations. This study aims to produce an optimized roll bar design in terms of weight, strength, and minimal deformation. The methodology involves Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and topology optimization using the SIMP method in ANSYS 2022 R2. Results show that the proposed design meets competition standards while significantly reducing mass. By applying a 37% percent to retain, the final roll bar mass is reduced to 1.284 kg. Structural analysis under lateral load yields a maximum stress of 142.35 MPa, a safety factor of 1.019, and maximum deformation of 8.3484 mm all within acceptable elastic limits. These findings demonstrate that topology optimization can deliver an efficient, safe, and competition-ready structural design for energy-saving vehicle applications.
