Abstract

WH-CGK61 warehouse of PT Shippindo Teknologi Logistik faces issues regarding storage space efficiency, particularly underutilized racking capacity and binboxes with significantly low utilization. This research aims to improve the sales area and storage space utilization at WH-CGK61 of PT Shippindo Teknologi Logistik through the redesign of racking capacity and binbox dimensions using the DMAIC framework. The required data includes SKU dimensions and quantities, as well as the racking and binboxes used in the storage system. Improvement efforts were carried out by adding shelving levels to 748 racking units in the shared warehouse with utilization below 85%, and modifying the dimensions and design of binboxes in the dedicated warehouse to achieve utilization above 70%. The implementation results show that the sales area increased by 27.2%, and the average racking utilization rate increased by 26.15%. Meanwhile, for the binboxes, the number of optimally utilized location codes rose to 20,598 locations (94.08%) of the total, and the average binbox utilization increased from 45.83% to 89.13%. This study proves that optimizing storage facility capacity through proper redesign can reduce waste space, enhance space efficiency, and support warehouse operational sustainability without requiring additional physical expansion.
