Abstract

The loading and unloading process of container cargo ships is a critical aspect of port operations, directly impacting logistical efficiency and costs. This research aims to analyze the application of the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) method to improve the efficiency of loading and unloading times at PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia (PELINDO). Inefficient loading and unloading frequently lead to vessel departure delays, increased berthing times, and higher operational costs. The VSM method was utilized to identify non-value-added activities and waste within the ship loading and unloading workflow.This study employed a quantitative approach, gathering primary data through direct field observations and interviews with relevant parties at Tanjung Priok Port. Secondary data, such as company records on vessel departure delays, were also collected. The research findings indicate the presence of several wasteful activities contributing to delays in the loading and unloading process. Proposed improvements, derived from VSM analysis, resulted in a significant increase in operational efficiency. The application of the Value Stream Mapping method proved effective in reducing the cycle time of the loading and unloading process and enhancing overall port operational efficiency.These findings offer practical contributions to PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia (PELINDO) by improving port performance and competitiveness, and can serve as a reference for future research in maritime logistics.
