Abstract

Metallography is a science that can be used to examine the structural characteristics of metals and their alloys. To get good observation results, good sample preparation is also needed, including sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching. The grinding and polishing process is an important stage, but it is often a long and inefficient stage, because it does not use the help of tools in doing it so the sample must be rubbed manually by hand. For this reason, a grinding and polishing machine was designed equipped with an electric motor as a drive. The research method starts from identifying needs, designing design concepts, manufacturing processes and testing tools. This double disc type grinding and polishing machine is designed with frame dimensions of 900 x 500 x 830 mm. The engine has two discs that can move simultaneously at a maximum actual speed at 601 RPM.
