Abstract

Around 3 out of 10 adolescents aged ≥15 years in Indonesia have increased blood pressure, causing a greater risk of hypertension in adulthood. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between fat intake, Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR), body fat percentage and physical activity with blood pressure in adolescents at SMP Negeri 182 Jakarta. This study used a cross-sectional study design. The study sample consisted of 219 grade IX students obtained through the Stratified Random Sampling technique. Analysis used Chi-Square test and multiple logistic regression test. The results of the analysis found a relationship between Waist-to-Hip Ratio (p-value=0,017) and body fat percentage (p-value=0,000) and there was no relationship between fat intake (p-value=0,132) and physical activity (p-value=0,694) with increased blood pressure in adolescents at SMP Negeri 182 Jakarta. Multivariate analysis found that the most influential factor on blood pressure was body fat percentage (p-value=0.000; OR = 7.393; 95% CI = 3.748–14.581). Adolescents are encouraged to limit high-fat food intake, engage in regular physical activity, maintain a healthy weight, and monitor blood pressure to reduce health risks.
