Abstract
Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has become a medium for communication, information exchange, and rapid discussions due to its large number of users. One of the phenomena on X is the existence of autobase accounts, which receive anonymous messages (menfess), including topics related to beauty, such as the @ohmy_beautybank account. However, the emergence of affiliate accounts poses challenges that may affect the validity of the information shared. Therefore, this study aims to examine the motives of users of the autobase account @ohmy_beautybank in fulfilling their need for valid information. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to explore individuals’ experiences regarding the phenomenon. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five female followers of the @ohmy_beautybank autobase account on X. The findings reveal several aspects, including users’ motives for accessing and using the account, their interaction experiences, the ease of accessing information, and the credibility of the information shared. The data analysis process involved organizing and preparing data, thoroughly reading the data, identifying significant statements, grouping statements, describing textural and structural aspects, and formulating the essence of experience. The results indicate that users' motives in accessing @ohmy_beautybank are not only limited to obtaining valid information but also involve critical, collaborative, and participatory processes, where users actively engage in a continuously evolving information-seeking ecosystem shaped by digital social dynamics.
